Dear Cooking-Related Reality TV Contestants,

Just as Project Runway hopefuls should try out at least one unconventional materials challenge before they go on the show, so too should you practice. But for you, the most important thing to practice is cooking a tough braising piece of meet (like, say, beef chuck) in half an hour. Because you will be expected to do it. No point acting surprised.

(You will also be expected to cook under extreme time pressure, but you do know that much already, right? Right?)

Also, if you can avoid saying, "Go big or go home," that would be great, thanks!

C

PS: If you say, "I don't ever lose!" or anything of that ilk, I suspect you want me to think, "Wow, you must be awesome at everything and fiercely competitive!" But what I actually think is, "Wow, you must not ever try anything difficult!" Just FYI. Also, in my experience, people who say, "I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to win," actually wind up doing neither.

I was amused by the first episode of the Great Food Truck Race (or whatever it's called) where some of the contestants were SHOCKED that they were going to have to try and sell stuff in someplace that wasn't their home city!

These people! These people! Missing the point!

It's like on Chopped when people are like, "30 minutes is too short of a time and I have no idea what to do with goat meat!" Ooohhhhhh.... kay, but why the heck did you go on Chopped?

That show was better then I thought it would be.

Mostly because they limited Tyler to about 2 minutes, tops.

That and the Nom Nom truck :->

I totally am on Team Nomnom Truck, because a) it's a banh mi truck, and banh mi is awesome, b) it's also doing fusion food in the form of Vietnamese sandwich fillings in tortillas, c) it's a couple of business majors, and business majors running businesses is a shockingly good idea!, d) it's an LA business and I'm partisan, and e) it's a couple of cute girls who f) rely on their cute much less than their smart to get ahead.

Smart girls making good and interesting food with a cute name in an eye-catching truck? SOLD.
