This is totally fascinating. International health, unexpected statistics, context, and debunking myths about the world.

EDIT: Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] mbrubeck, the sequel, which is also excellent, nuances the original speech in a lot of interesting ways, and has an awesome conclusion (watch all the way to the end). And you can play with the software he uses. (So apparently this is a pretty old presentation, but... oh well! I still think it's cool.)

Those people are awesome. I don't have time to watch the talks right now, so I'm not sure if they mention it, but their long-term plan is to get all the world's statistical data hooked up to that application (or something like it) so everyone can do this kind of analysis. Google bought them ti help make that happen; it's one of the things that makes me feel warm and fuzzy about working here.
