Thanksgiving at [livejournal.com profile] jmpava's father's house in eastern Washington was fabulous. First: the food. Hors d'oeuvres of wasabi walnut honey clusters and samosas with wassail to wash it down; a soup of roasted pears and winter squash with a curl of sour cream on top; a sorbet of pear and ginger to cleanse the palate; turkey, gravy, pear stuffing, potatoes mashed with brie, two kinds of cranberry sauce (one with apples and walnuts and one without), green bean casserole, rolls with goat cheese butter; poached pears in Creme Anglaise in chocolate baskets; chocolate port; coffee. Yum. I nearly burst.

Next: the company. As most of you probably know, Pava's father rocks. So, too, does his partner. And I met a lot of nifty people who were dinner guests.

Finally: the house. This is a frickin awesome house. I'm currently writing from the living room area, which has a view of the town and the hills (partly obscured by mist and rain). It's a bit cold for my personal taste, but then, I rather like cold if I can stay indoors, wear a fuzzy sweater, and drink hot chocolate. ;) My favorite part is the kitchen, which has a half-wall separating it from the living room, which means you can cook and socialize with people at the same time, easily. I would love one of those, since I love having people over and feeding them, but hate sequestering myself in the kitchen.

Mmm... purr. Think I'll go read for a bit now.
