I feel like black matches rests of outfits more generally than brown does. Would depend a fair bit on the rest of your costume, though, I think.

Since I am stubborn and obnoxious, and march madly to my own stupid drum (that's beat gets me very little happiness), I will submit an overly wordy opinion instead of just clicking a box. I'm in a bad mood, but I love the boots. I think you should get both! But...understanding that reason has value, my preference is for the brown. You look pretty good in black, but so does everybody. The brown will probably look better. But! You need to get the color that looks best with whatever you usually wear, or whatever you will be wearing the boots with. Costuming 101: never wear something that looks good, wear what looks good on you, or is as close to perfect with the look you are trying to achieve. And now my mad-bad self is going back to my temper tantrum. The boots are cool. Either choice will probably look fabu on you. I like choices where there are no bad options.

I'd totally get both, in a heartbeat, if they didn't cost $170. ;) They are awesomest boots.

That was really my thought -- black goes with everything, but brown is less... I dunno, cliche? Predictable? But I don't want to get the brown because of that and then limit my wearing choices.... (Either would go with my costume itself, since I'm wearing a burgundy velvet skirt, which I think would go equally well with dark brown and black.)

I suspect brown goes better with my coloring, though. Hm... good point.

I chose brown because it goes better with your coloring (hair!). I also chose it because they're more unique. I love the contrast on them. They look so much more steampunk-y to me than the black, which look like your run-of-the-mill gothboots.

Okay, I answered black, because that's always my first inclination, but CJ has convinced me otherwise. And it seems somehow wrong to go change my poll answers, so instead I'll just say it here:

Also, those boots are totally fucking awesome.

I feel like I should be putting italics or bold or some other sort of emphasis there, but I can't decide whether it should be on "totally", "fucking", "awesome", or some combination. Plus if I put as much emphasis as I really felt the words deserved, they'd be so huge/bold/whatever that it would look like I'm joking.

To my eye, the black boots flow better; I find the brown leather on the brown boots distracts from the overall look of them rather than highlighting nifty features.

I actually am not a fan of brown generally but I voted for brown because it showcases the contrasting textures and details so much better. The black boots' styling is much less obvious, imo.
