Dim sum is one of the reasons I'm very grateful that I don't have many dietary restrictions and I'm not especially picky. Most of the pleasure of it comes from the fact that the food is wonderful, but I also am delighted to pick out a dumpling or roll on a whim and not know what it is until I bite in.

We went to get dim sum for lunch, at a place in the International District (Jade Garden, for locals). I'm not sure what half of what I ate was, but it was mostly of the genre 'food wrapped in stuff.' We chose, at semi-random based on what looked good from the outside, crunchy eggrolls, chopped seasoned pork and peanuts wrapped in dumpling dough so thin it was nearly transparent and steamed, thick fluffy pork buns, shrimp in a crispy sesame shell, thin flat packets of dough (with the consistency of very soft noodles) and a filling I couldn't identify (but that was pretty darn tasty) swimming in a lovely thin sauce, and broccoli lightly drizzled with a salty-savory sauce. And jasmine tea. We wanted little fruit tartlets for dessert, but were too full to move already.

Yum. I'm already looking forward to going back.

Yes!

Please take me sometime. I love Dim Sum, but it's really a group thing.

Yes, definitely! We were there with more food than we could reasonably eat, and I was just thinking how nice it would be to bring someone else, or a group, and get a whole variety to share.

Yay!! That is definitely one of the best parts of Dim Sum! :]

I don't know why I have to Capitalize it.

I've never had dim-sum. Perhaps K. and I will have to try it when we're up in Seattle this weekend!

I highly recommend it! The only thing to watch out for is that it's really easy to get way too much food -- they bring trays around and you pick out what you want, and everything looks so good.... But even if you do, the prices are very reasonable (six dishes -- each containing about three rolls or dumplings -- plus two cups of tea cost us $20, and 4-5 would have been plenty).

I usually go get dim sum with people who know what they're ordering. They also happen to know how to communicate with the servers by talking instead of pointing. Because of that, I usually have an idea of what I'm eating or have a reason for not trying something.
