Okay, holiday shopping is done, and assuming that the stuff I just paid exorbitant amounts to ship to me actually comes when it's supposed to, I'm good.

I should... probably bake some things, though, for the Inevitable People I've Forgotten.

Oh yeah, and I need to make three pairs of earrings, but that I can do in a couple of hours on the weekend.

I tend to do a lot of baking for people this time of year. This year I made a lot of Dan's coworkers this great tea cake/bread that is delicious dunked in a hot beverage (and contains chocolate, which always makes me happy).

1¾ c all-purpose flour
2½ c whole wheat flour
2¼ t baking powder
½ t cinnamon
¼ t nutmeg
½ salt
¼ c butter (room temp)
⅔ c sugar
2 large eggs
½ c milk
½ t almond extract
½ c sliced almonds
1 ounce semi-sweet chocolate grated/chopped

Oven to 325. Grease 4 mini-loaf pans or 2 9X5 loaf pans.

Combine the flours, baking powder, spices, and salt.

In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream butter and sugar. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in milk and add almond extract.

Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Fold in the almonds and grated chocolate. Divide the mixture between the prepared pans and pat it down.

Bake until golden, 25 minutes for the mini-loaves, 50 minutes for the regular loaves, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
