Sorry for the delay on this -- first it was way too hot to think about anything, let alone cooking, and then I sort of lost track of it. But! I'm still planning on doing the monthly cooking club thing with Madhur Jaffrey's books.

Since the poll was pretty evenly divided both between books and between once-a-month and twice-a-month people, I'm going to do it this way: every month I'll pick two menus, one from Indian Cooking and one from World-of-the-East Vegetarian Cooking. You don't have to do both! You can acquire one cookbook and just make the dishes from that cookbook, one per month. Or you can get both cookbooks and pick the one that looks better to you at any given time. Or you can get both cookbooks and cook both dishes, which is what I'm going to do. ;) Up to you.

Anyway, for a timeline. I want to give everyone at least a month to acquire the book or books, shop for ingredients, and make the dish, so I'll post the recipes for this month by the 15th at the latest, and the first roundup/discussion post will be next month -- September 15. That should give you plenty of time, even if you have to order the book.

Jaffrey's books seem to be pretty easy to come by -- they both appear to be in print at Amazon (and presumably elsewhere), and links are here: Indian Cooking and Madhur Jaffrey's World-of-the-East Vegetarian Cooking. They're also not terribly uncommon to find in used bookstores and libraries, if that suits you more.

Anyway. Starting menus soon to come, and then we can get this show on the road!

On an unrelated note, but still kitchen-ish: Mark Bittman's new cook book looks very interesting. You might poke through it the next time you are at a bookstore

It is meant to be for people who don't cook to get them into the right groove, but it also could be very inspirational for a more seasoned chef to take some of his ideas and run with them. It is a very creative idea. Thought I would bring it to your attention.

lol I couldn't decide, so I just ordered both from Amazon. The used prices were too good to turn down!

I was finally able to pick up the book today, so if you have a filter for it, I would love to join in!
