What I really loved about Stepsister Scheme--besides the strong heroines--was that, even though it took a Darker And Grittier approach to fairytales, Danielle and Armand still had True Love. I am so, SO tired of the smugly cynical fairytale remixes that boil down to "Life sucks, men are pigs." (They seem to mostly exist as short stories, which I guess is a blessing.)
