I liked that a lot, too. And, more generally, the fact that there were a variety of positive relationships as well as the negatives: Danielle and her mother, the fairy ambassador's apparently-genuine fondness for Armand, et cetera. It seems that all too often, in the name of being "gritty," books like that reject the notion that people can actually be good to one another.
