Five Random Things Make A Post

1. I have planted flowers -- crocuses, irises, white daffodils, and hyacinth, mostly in shades of blue and purple -- in the front planter. The crocuses have produced buds that look like they're ready to bloom at any second, and one of the irises has already opened. Whee! Next plan: keep track of how much sunlight the front beds get (to determine whether I need to be looking for part-shade or full-shade flowers and herbs to put there), figure out if I want sun-loving herbs/vegetables badly enough to put a box planter on the deck, and decide what to put in the planter once the bulbs' season ends in six weeks or so.

2. I am thinking of going to Norwescon, the Seattle Science Fiction and Fantasy convention, in March. I wouldn't be getting a room, so it'd be a daytrippy thing, but I might take the Friday off and go during the days for Friday and Saturday. (For those of you who haven't been to a science fiction/fantasy con, versus a gaming or anime con, they tend to be a lot more panel-heavy -- lots of panels discussing books, as well as things like filk and writing and medieval history and stuff. The ) Is anyone else in the area interested in going, or knows someone who is going? (It's also the weekend before Sakuracon, the local anime convention; I think Pav and I will be going to at least one day of that, too.)

3. avani and ceph, would you mind awfully if I borrowed your (first) names as names of planets for a short story? (I should go back to posting writing-status updates.)

4. jmpava and I spent the weekend at the Yakima Valley Red Wine and Chocolate tour. The wine was, as it usually is, exceptional -- and the chocolate in several places was also exceptional. We had a chocolate mousse cookie crumbe thing, several wonderful brownies, and a taste of a dark-chocolate-and-pink-peppercorn bar. (The peppercorn-chocolate was delicious, but we agreed that it was probably too potent for an eating chocolate except in very small fragments. It would have made quite a good brownie, though...) I also found some red wines that I like; I'm usually a white-wine girl all round. (I have been told that I have kool-aid tastes in wine, and it's probably not far off; I like sweet, fruity wines, and don't care at all for tannin-heavy wines.)

5. I've been reading a lot lately -- The Mislaid Magician (followed by a reread of Sorcery and Cecelia) and The Eustace Diamonds most recently, plus several cookbooks and beadwork books, because that's how my neep goes. Expect neepery and book reviews soon.

Oh, mmmm. Yes, I probably would. I have a weakness for fruit wines. (We just bought a huckleberry white and a huckleberry port.... yum.)
