Bored Saturday question:

What's your favorite movie soundtrack? (I'm talking the score, the instrumental background-musicky soundtrack, not a soundtrack with singing like for a Disney movie or a musical.) It's okay if it's for a movie that's not one of your favorites; mine is. I think the end theme to A Series of Unfortunate Events may be the best part of the movie.

So what scores do you like?

Unless there's actually singing involved i don't think i pay much attention to the music in movies. In fact off the top of my head (a notoriously bad process for "remembering" things in my case =) the only movies i can think of whose background music i can actually remember at the moment are Star Wars and HP. I'm sure there are a lot more i would recognize if i heard them but those are the only ones i can currently recreate in my head.

In fact the only music i can think of that i regularly listen to that doesn't have words is video game music and video game remixes :)

I like the soundtrack to Resident Evil. I wouldn't call it a "score" though ...

I like the Gladiator soundtrack. It was the first soundtrack I bought in a long, long time, of course it has Lisa Gerard from Dead Can Dance on it, so that's always a plus.

John Williams' The Imperial March is a pretty damn fine piece of music.
Anyone with the balls and skill to use Wagner or Gorecki tastefully get props too.
The score for the Lord of The Rings trilogy was very good.
Pi had a great brainhurting soundtrack.
Brazil had a loopy soundtrack.
But as for non-score soundtracks, I thought The Crow kicked ass.

Well, LOTR is the obvious choice, but isn't my fave, I don't think. Same goes for Star Wars.

I really liked the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon soundtrack, but I do think Memoirs of a Geisha was a bit...deeper.

Catch Me if You Can...I don't like Jazz, but I did like the soundtrack (minus the Sinatra).

Silk Road is a soundtrack to a documentary...which I never saw...but I think it's my favorite "score," though I don't think that's exactly what you mean. *cough*

I'd probably just say Memoirs, unless I really thought about it for more time than I care to, now. Any soundtrack that gets Ma and Perlman, both, is worth listening to.

I don't think I have one favorite. I'm quite fond of Serenity, Finding Nemo, and Sneakers. I greatly admire and enjoy LOTR, but I'm not sure I love it, exactly. The main theme to Superman is in a class by itself, even among John Williams' work (though it's inseparable from the opening title sequence it backs). I'm not sure the soundtrack to Speed is actually any good, but it does its job superbly, and find it playing in my head a lot. Beauty and the Beast gets noticed for the songs, but the score is quite nice too. I also like Apollo 13, though it is a bit cliched in the patriotic-horn-fanfare department.

I think the end theme to A Series of Unfortunate Events may be the best part of the movie.

Me too.

Chronicles of Riddick. In fact, this is about 40% of why I like the movie so much (40% stunning visuals/CGI, 10% [interesting plot - cheese], 10% Vin Diesel). I listen to this a lot when I'm doing work and lyric music is distracting.

Jurassic Park and Pirates of the Caribbean are both fun.

I have a bunch of movie soundtracks from putting together the play list for my wedding brunch reception--we just had movie score music playing.

Also, I just saw Atonement, and it has some really cool music.
