Hmm.

Movies I Definitely Want To See On The Big Screen, in decreasing order of inevitability

* Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I think if I don't see this one, my thirteen-year-old, crush-on-Harrison-Ford self will come forward from the past and strangle me. So clearly it's inevitable. Also, of all of them, this seems like the one most likely to lose something in the conversion from big to small screen.
* Wall*E. It's Pixar. While Pixar movies vary some in quality, the track record is so good I am willing to go on faith these days. (Sort of like the way I'll buy Pratchett books in hardcover, on faith.)
* Get Smart. The original 60s show is what put me onto my fannishness about irreverent secret agents, I have a great deal of nostalgia value for it, and the trailer looks promising.

Movies I Will See If There's A Group Going, But I Can Wait For DVD Too

* Prince Caspian. I enjoyed Lion, Witch and Wardrobe in the theater, but it didn't really stick in my head, so while I think I would enjoy this one, I don't feel strongly about seeing it.
* Mamma Mia. Love love love love the stage production, but I doubt it'd lose that much in the conversion to the small screen, so it's not urgent.

I was frustrated by Prince Caspian. Keep in mind I loved the Narnia books to the point I had almost whole chapters memorized. While The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe wasn't necessarily a movie I would like to see again and again, it was very respectful to its origin while still being a very entertaining movie. Prince Caspian bothered me both as a film and and adaption. The film was disjoint and could not make up its mind what elements to focus on. The adaption was not to my liking-- movie-only battles shoved in for no reason, and character development cut (it seemed) to make room for them. Go see Iron Man instead.
I have been wandering around doing a "wall E" voice since I first saw the preview. And I was stupid enough to consider going to see the new Indy movie at 11 am opening day at the Dome in Hollywood one my way to Big Bear for the Riverside Telescope Makers Conference. Sure-- Hollywood is on the way to Big Bear! Well, they are both North of Long Beach. I never really had a crush on Harrison Ford characters, but I sure wanted to be one. And it seems every time I write silly fiction my female leads have a very rogue-ish "never tell-me the odds" and "they were supposed to have fixed it" 'tude.
Get Smart I would like to see because the show did amuse me as a kid, and I really like Anne Hathaway. If you haven't seen the Devil Wears Prada it is a very good no-expectations movie. I was intrigued enough about her to rent Ella Enchanted from netflix-- don't do that! It was awful (but the book is very cute and worth reading). And I am also looking forward to Mamma Mia because the trailor made it look like far too much fun, and the cast will be interesting to watch.

I think Geoff and I would like to see several of those. Assuming you haven't already seen them. Let us know if a) you're planning to see one and b) would like company (and we'll do the same).

I'm down for any or all of those.
