Mar. 19th, 2009 10:09 amWe recently got some bitter apple stuff that's designed to keep cats from chewing on things. Basically, it's totally harmless, but tastes vile. (I can attest to this, having -- out of curiosity -- tasted the tip of my finger after we were done applying it. It's nastily bitter.)
The stuff was really bought so that we could discourage them from chewing on wires and cables (they've destroyed three of Pava's headsets, and in addition to that being irritating, we don't want them to chew on something carrying a significant charge and kill themselves), but we applied it to the extremely tempting dangly blind pulls as well, because they've already snapped a couple.
Just now I was watching Alys sitting in the window, and saw the idea emerge in her little cat brain that perhaps the blind pull would be fun to play with! So she hopped over and reached out to tug it closer, got it in her mouth... and dropped it. Got it in her mouth again... and dropped it, and shook her head a little. One more repeat. Then she turned away, deterred... but apparently the cord (now swinging slightly from her first three attempts) was just too tempting, because she went right back to it, and tried twice more to eat it before it finally dawned on her that it was not going to stop tasting vile.
She's now sitting under the desk, looking offended. ♥
