I'm not sure what you're asking but 'elvish' is older than 'elfin'. I like 'elven' but Tolkien was the first to use that as an adjective (I think).

All bad puns aside, to me "elfin" implies "small and delicate in an elfy sort of way" while "Elvish" means "of or relating to the race of Elves."
