Aug. 20th, 2009 10:57 pmPaula Deen is on NPR ("Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me") talking about her Ladies' Afternoon Hamburger. Using Krispy Kreme donuts as buns, plus a fried egg on top.
The funny thing is, I've always thought that raised doughnuts tasted like frosted hamburger buns, so it makes sense to me!
(This is why I've always preferred cake donuts to raised; cake doughnuts taste like deep-fried, glazed cake, which is yummy if possibly not so good for you, but raised doughnuts taste like frosted hamburger buns, which, not so much.)
I suppose, for that reason, a hamburger with Krispy Kreme donuts doesn't sound all that weird -- not that much weirder than, say, a hamburger with a sweet sauce (like sweet-n-sour, or most barbecue sauces). Just, inside out.
But then, I kinda love Paula Deen. For one thing, she's so shameless she crosses the line back to delightful. For another thing, she reminds me of my Aunt Josie, from Lumpkin, Georgia. (No, I am making up none of those names.) Although Aunt Josie fed me the best fried chicken and green beans with bacon I've ever had -- never anything with doughnuts.
