Just curiosity....
Definitions: a raised doughnut is made with a yeasted dough. It tends to be puffier and more tender but also chewier, with less sweetness in the doughnut itself and most of the sweetness coming from the glaze, topping, or filling. A cake doughnut is made with a cakelike, baking-powder raised dough. It tends to be denser and more crumbly, with a sweet, cakelike flavor and texture.

Date: 2009-08-31 12:40 pm (UTC)If I'm looking for a small sweet nosh, I'll go for the raised doughnut. There's less actual volume of food there, they take less time to eat, etc.
If I'm grabbing a doughnut as a meal replacement or to tide me over to the next meal, I'll get a cake doughnut. Because I want something more substantial.
That being said, I'm also a thrall of the Cult of The Krispy Kreme. So if the hot light is on, I am compelled to stop and get an Original Glazed. Which is a raised doughnut.
