How bad an idea would it be for me to layer my hair like Boomer from BSG?

I can't do short bangs, because I won't get them trimmed enough to keep them out of my face. I just won't. But longer bangs, layered, to add interest...?

I like the pic you posted of her with the longer bangs (I guess not really bangs at all, but cheek-length layers? I think your hair would look really nice cut like that, especially freshly hennaed. :-) Plus, layers aren't really a commitment as much as bangs are!

Yeah, I think I'm going to do it. :D Do you have any suggestions for good salons in the Seattle area?

Well, I go to Ola Salon in West Seattle and I *love* them. Specifically, I go to Avian, who is really awesome and gives great hair cuts. (If you can get an appt. tomorrow I can totally pick you up and then hold you hostage until the evening!)

You'd be okay with taking me to the salon and then taking me to your place? 'Coz Pava's going to have the car and be helping his mom move. If so, I'll give them a call and see if they have any openings! (And I found another great pic I can use to show them what I want, here.

No worries! The second pic is *great*. Ola has different prices depending on the person and I think Avian is at their lower scale. Given the salon's reputation, I would guess that anyone at that level would be good!!!

And yes - I'm totally up for picking you up....we're not doing anything tomorrow but trying to get rid of dust.

And [livejournal.com profile] pploesch goes to Tart in Ballard and likes it. She also recommends Vain in Ballard.

Would you be annoyed about not being able to fit all your hair into a ponytail and having cascades of flyaways come out of your braid? If so, then go for it.

At least that was my experience when I had layers, plus my hair isn't very thick, so it looked pathetic in braids and ponytails. Right now, with all my hair one length it looks bad enough as it is. :(

Actually the ponytail thing is part of why I'm considering layers—my face looks really... odd and unflattering with no hair around it, but with layers I could have some hair loose/down with the rest of it pulled back up off my neck.

It might annoy me, but since I don't wear a ponytail at all right now, it's worth a shot!

It would look very nice. I doubt it would require much upkeep, but you might want to consider experimenting a little bit with goo and curlers just to give your hair some lift. It's possible the nice layered bangs might get a bit fly away looking fuller and featherier than the rest of your hair. I'm pretty sure she spends quite a bit of time in large curlers at 6 am to give her hairstyle fullness.

Depending on how well one's hair behaves, blowdrying (sans heat) upside-down should be enough to give that kind of lift. I'm sure a stylist can give some advice though. :)

I think it would look nice. I wore bangs like that for awhile in high school, by virtue of not cutting them until they framed my face about chin length. I always thought it was awesome.

That's all layers are? I thought it was more complicated than that. I think my hair may _almost_ do that naturally because of all the split ends =P

I've had my hair like that before - the nice thing is it's random enough that if your lazy (like me!) about keeping your hair trimmed it still looks cute 6 mths later. In general, for my hair at least, layers continue to look cute even as I ignore trimming my hair. For example, I love how my hair looks now. Got it cut 18+ mths ago to a chin length with layers, now it's bra length and *still* has cute layers! And some split ends, but I'm ignoring those right now! :o)

yeah my hair is actually cut like that picture now (and about the same length). I like it. I usually use one of those elastic headbandy thingies in addition to a ponytail holder to keep the short layers back. If you wanna be dressier you can use all sorts of cute clips and pins and things.
