Mar. 9th, 2008 03:11 pmMy laptop still works like a charm (well, except for the CD drive, but that's another story), except for the keyboard. It's beginning to get sticky. Specifically the 'w' key, right now. It registers just fine -- in fact, the problem is that it won't stop registering, so if I type a word with a w in it, about a quarter of the time it inserts two 'w's, even though I only struck it once. Like wowrk. Or wwidow. Or wowuld. Not all the time, but enough to be irritating.
If it were a standard keyboard, I'd just pop the w key off and clean under it with a q-tip, but this laptop keyboard doesn't seem to allow me to pop off individual keys. I'm going to get some compressed air and go a little psycho on it, but apart from that, does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean a laptop keyboard where the individual keys don't pop off? (I'm tempted to just take the damn thing to CompUSA and buy their 'laptop cleaning and vacuuming' service, because it's not that expensive, but I'm not sure how effective it would be either.)
The laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505.
If I can't fix it any other way, I think I can actually have Dell just replace the keyboard, but since I'm pretty sure I'm out of warranty and I imagine it's a somewhat overpriced kind of fix, and also I'll have to mail the lappy off somewhere and be without it for a while if I do, I'm saving that as a solution of last resort. ;)
