I have signed up for NaNoWriMo.

(If you're signed up, too, and you want to be writing buddies -- whatever the hell that means! I've never done it before -- you can apparently do so from the above link. One more day to sign up, should the mood take you.)

Wish me luck! It's my fourth year, but it's still always a bit scary to start....

(the NaNo website is running really slow, unsurprisingly.)

So right now, as far as writing goes, I'm working on three things: second-world fantasy werewolf novel, Jazz Age urban fantasy in an invented city, and Chinese-culture-influenced space opera. Like so:

Changeable: ...which will not be the novel's final name; it's a placeholder. The story of Hunith ny Siathne and Cyfner ey Duy, and what their loyalty to their lord will entail, and what happens when the will of the clan-lord doesn't fall in line with the will of the god (and when it is unclear whether the will of man -- self-interested but sane -- should bow to the will of the god, who is benevolent but inscrutiable and, by the standards of humans, mad). And the struggles of alphas -- and whether it is good for men to rule by the law of strength. And other things, like family and the village versus the wild and the dubious value of education in a preindustrial society, and about women, and men. My NaNovel.

City of Thorn: The story of Irina, and her love-hate relationship with her home city. Urban fantasy (very place-oriented) with a side-order of runepunk and shapechangers and a heavy does of the Roaring Twenties. And gunmetal. And secrets. And culture clashes. And romance in the most unromantic settings, and magic in the most unmagical objects. More along the lines of China Mieville than Charles de Lint, but also with influences from paranormal romance.

The Truth of Things: Space opera! The story of Huang Ji (linguist extraordinaire), Xin Tien Kai (psionicist and empath), and Tang Lian Hua (their kickass bodyguard), on their continuing mission to... um. Do linguistic research on all known and unknown worlds in the wake of the Collapse and the Diaspora! Seriously, lots of exciting travel, conflict, language, and yes, it's very me to write a space opera centered around linguists. *cough* The romantic thread is about a stable polyamorous triad (two men, one woman). I have always wanted to write something in which a polyamorous relationship was entirely normal and non-prurient within the context of the story. love triangles can bite me! (This one is currently in research mode, so that I can try to write something based on Chinese culture without totally blowing it.)

...blah blah blah!
