Sharing Awesome AMVs
Nov. 19th, 2010 10:17 pmI keep meaning to post about AMVs, because I know there are a lot of vidders and vid fans on my flist, and I come at the whole vid thing from the AMV (anime music video) side, and as far as I can tell it's completely different in both culture and aesthetic, and yet also awesome.
This is not that post!
This is a squee and sharing post, because I've been using AMVs to keep me writing on my NaNo project. And I think some of you would find them beautiful. Or fun. Or both!
The first is called "Fireflies," by soaringsalad, and it's an AMV that I watch when I'm stuck, or depressed, or in a bad mood, because it's very difficult for me to stay that way while watching. It just makes me happy. This is a multifandom video (as many AMVs are), featuring Howl's Moving Castle, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, The Cat Returns, Princess Tutu, Ponyo, Spirited Away, Kiki's Deliver Service, and Paprika, plus a few brief cameos of other things. You certainly don't need to know all of them to appreciate the AMV, though, or—frankly—probably even any of them. It's a lovely video, and also a... well, a joyful one. The song is "Fireflies" by Owl City. No warnings, I don't think.
( Fireflies )
The second I know I've linked before, but I'm going to link it again, because it rocks. It's called "One-Eyed Fish," and it's by Rider4Z. It's an AMV for the anime of Mushi-shi, and it has the same strange and wistful and beautiful quality as the anime and manga. (You definitely don't need to know the anime/manga to appreciate the video, though; I picked up the series because of this video rather than the other way around.) The series is too episodic to really be spoilerable, I think. The song is "Last of the Wilds" by Nightwish, an instrumental piece which fits beautifully. There is one creepy bit involving a needle and a glass eye, but there's nothing that I find upsetting and I'm fairly squeamish.
( One-Eyed Fish )
The last video is called "Hold Me Now," by alkampfer81. It's a Princess Tutu video. I am told that it is quite spoilery, although to be honest I haven't actually seen Princess Tutu so I couldn't tell you. What I can tell you is that it's one of the most dramatic and conflict-ful videos I've ever seen... and pretty much all the drama and conflict is in dancing. It's beautifully done. The music is "Håll Om Mig," by Nanne Grönvall.
( Hold Me Now )
And that's it until I get my actual AMV rec post put together. These three, though... if you have a few minutes and want to see something beautiful, pick one and check it out.
And as a bonus, something fun I meant to post for Halloween but forgot...
